Why Visit at 5AM?
By 9AM, Fushimi Inari is packed with tour groups. At 5AM, you'll have the iconic torii gates almost entirely to yourself. The morning light filtering through the vermillion gates creates a magical atmosphere you simply can't experience during the day.

Summer (June–August)
- Arrive by: 4:45 AM
- Sunrise: ~5:15 AM

Winter (December–February)

What to Expect
The full climb takes 2–3 hours round trip. You'll encounter a few locals doing morning prayer, some cats (considered sacred messengers), and maybe 10–20 other early birds. By the time you descend around 7–8AM, the crowds will be arriving.
How to Get There Early
Take the JR Nara Line to Inari Station (2 stops from Kyoto Station). First train departs around 5:00 AM. If you're staying in Gion, it's a 15-minute taxi ride (~¥1,000).
